Ordinance Codification

What is ordinance codification?

Ordinance codification is the process of collecting, organizing, and publishing the ordinances for your city. The codification - or organization - of your city’s ordinances is an essential part of the governmental function. It provides both local governments and citizens with a body of current, enforceable laws, organized in a way that makes the code easy to use and reference.

Why codify?

  1. Organization and Accessibility - Codification organizes and consolidates existing ordinances into a clear and logical structure, making it easier for citizens, businesses, and officials to navigate and under stand local laws.
  2. Enhanced Transparency - Codification increases transparency by presenting laws in a user-friendly format, citizens can easily access and search for specific ordnances, ensuring a more informed and engaged community.
  3. Legal Compliance and Accuracy - Codification involves a comprehensive review and update of ordinances, ensuring compliance with current legal standards and minimizing the risk of outdate or conflicting regulations.
  4. Efficient Governance - Accessible and clear ordinances empower officials to make informed decisions, contributing to the overall efficiency of local governance.
  5. Adaptability to Change - A codified system is designed to be adaptable to changes, allowing for easier incorporation of amendments or new ordinances without disrupting the overall structure.
