The City of Leavenworth is seeking a Convention and Visitors Bureau Manager who will bring innovation and energy to the First City in Kansas. Nestled along the banks of the Missouri River, Leavenworth features a historic downtown, a military post, a private university, unique museums, and a variety of cultural and recreational attractions.
The ideal candidate will serve as the City’s Destination Marketing Organization (DMO), promoting Leavenworth as a premier tourist destination and facilitating group tours. This position requires a creative and strategic professional with strong marketing and communication skills, including proficiency in developing digital marketing materials and utilizing emerging outreach platforms to engage diverse audiences.
Responsibilities
The Convention and Visitors Bureau Manager is responsible for planning, developing, and executing tourism and marketing initiatives that enhance visitation and economic impact for the City. This includes managing advertising campaigns, branding efforts, and promotional materials across multiple platforms.
The Manager oversees the Transient Guest Tax Fund, with an annual budget of approximately $500,000, ensuring responsible allocation of resources to maximize tourism growth. The position also supervises two staff members, providing leadership, direction, and professional development.
Additional responsibilities include coordinating and supporting group tours, fostering partnerships with local businesses and organizations, and providing leadership for the City’s annual festival, Camp Leavenworth, which is executed in partnership with a professional event management company. The Manager will stay current on tourism trends and digital marketing strategies to effectively expand the City’s reach and visibility.
Qualifications
Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, tourism, business, public administration, or a related field, along with relevant professional experience in tourism promotion, marketing, or communications.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong knowledge of digital marketing tools, social media platforms, and emerging outreach strategies. Experience in budget management, event coordination, and staff supervision is preferred. A valid driver’s license may be required.
Compensation & Benefit
Anticipated Hiring Range: $62,944 – $78,681 (dependent on qualifications and experience)
Retirement: Kansas Public Employees Retirement System (KPERS)
