On the first day of the League's Annual Conference, all four policy committees come together to review the amended Statement of Municipal Policy [SMP]. All city officials are invited to participate in the meeting. Following discussion and any amendments, the SMP is then sent back to the League's governing body. Lunch is included for all Legislative Policy Committee participants. Please RSVP to ensure an accurate headcount for food and seating. Lunch will be served beginning at noon, and the Legislative Policy Committee meeting is set to begin at 1:00p.m.

Cybersecurity for Cities is 4 elective credit hours for Level I or Level II of the MTI program.
The Director of Statewide Cyber Collaboration & Preparedness for the Kansas Information Security Office and Office of Information Technology, Erin McGinnis, will be presenting 'Cybersecurity for Municipalities an Exercise in Security.' This presentation will be a blend of information on Cybersecurity, what we are seeing across the state, resources available, and a walk-through of an executive level Tabletop Exercise based on real-world events.

Maintaining openness in government is a key responsibility for elected and appointed city officials. It is critical that city and county attorneys, along with elected and appointed officials, have a working knowledge of both the Kansas Open Meetings Act (KOMA) and Kansas Open Records Act (KORA). This workshop provides an in-depth legal analysis of both.

The government’s dedication to assuring a fair workplace has meant greater legal complexity in all aspects of supervision. This workshop will help supervisors navigate the most current legal provisions associated with the public-sector workplace and translate them into plain-English guidelines. This class will cover the basics of hiring and firing, the Fair Labor Standards Act, the Family Medical Leave Act, USERRA, the Kansas Domestic Violence Leave Act, how to write a good personnel policy, and common harassment claims.
