Maintaining openness in government is a key responsibility for elected and appointed city officials. It is critical that city and county attorneys, along with elected and appointed officials, have a working knowledge of both the Kansas Open Meetings Act (KOMA) and Kansas Open Records Act (KORA). This workshop provides an in-depth legal analysis of both. During the KOMA portion of the training, attendees will learn about: - Types of governmental bodies and meetings covered by KOMA;
- Requirements of the Act;
- Serial meetings; and
- Executive sessions.
The KORA section of the training will focus on: - Requirements of the Act;
- Policies and procedures all cities should establish;
- KORA exemptions.
Cost to attend this course is $125 for members and $150 for nonmembers. Anyone who will be watching the training (whether in its entirety or coming in and out of the room) must register and pay the course fee. All participants receive the most up-to-date KORA and KOMA manuals (a $100 value). Please register by Tuesday, November 5, 2024 to ensure you receive your manuals in time. This course has been approved for three hours of CLE credit and 0.75 CMC/MMC credit.
