MTI: Code Enforcement and Nuisance Abatement

Blight and nuisances are a continual point of conversation and frustration for many cities around the state. Within our cities, code enforcement is used to resolve health, safety, and public nuisance problems that may adversely affect the quality of life for citizens. In this MTI, we will explore the legal authority cities have when responding to code complaints and nuisances. We will review the process of code enforcement and discuss best practices for cities to use when addressing property maintenance and blight in their communities.

  • Developing city ordinances for blight and nuisances
  • Minimum Housing Code
  • How to deal with constituents
  • Use of municipal court or administrative procedures

This class is taught by the League’s General Counsel John Goodyear.

Cancellations must be in writing and received by Thursday, September 12 for your registration fee to be waived. The cancellations must be emailed to rredd@lkm.org. Phone cancellations will not be accepted.

Cost to attend this course is $75 for members, $100 for nonmembers, and includes lunch.
