Since the League’s founding in 1910, advocating on behalf of the cities in Kansas is a core function of the League. The Legislative Staff uses the Statement of Municipal Policy (SMP) as its guide for key issues. The SMP is amended and adopted annually by the League’s Convention of Voting Delegates. The Legislative staff works with cities to communicate the League’s position on legislative issues via email, letters, calls and personal visits to legislators. Building relationships with the legislators is key to expanding the League’s influence and impact.
