The League is offering a new Municipal Training Institute course for cities to examine and discuss issues surrounding social media use for cities and municipalities. This course will review policy issues for cities including a basic social media policies and terms of use for external audiences as well as a discussion on policy considerations for employees and elected officials. The course will also provide in-depth discussion and review of social media best practices including current technology, platforms and applications including:  

  • Strategic messaging to engage audiences;
  • Creating editorial calendars and content management;
  • Developing graphics and video for social media; and
  • Tips on how to use low-to-no-cost applications for scheduling, advertising, and planning.

We encourage the following city officials attend this course: city managers/administrators, city attorneys, city clerks, elected officials and those responsible for posting social media for cities. This course will be taught by Amanda Stanley, Legal Counsel and Megan Gilliland, Communications & Education Manager, both with the League of Kansas Municipalities.  The MTI will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Cost to attend this course is $75 for members, $100 for nonmembers. Lunch and materials provided.  The course is being submitted for IIMC credit. You will be invoiced for this course.
