“My City, My Home”

Coloring My Community

The League of Kansas Municipalities has worked with the Kansas Board of Education to develop civic requirements for elementary students, and it is our desire to serve as a resource for teachers as they address civics in Kansas.

In 2010, the League of Kansas Municipalities will celebrate its 100th Anniversary. To help celebrate, we have developed a coloring and worksheet book for third-grade students, and we hope you will consider using it during the 2009-10 school year to satisfy the Third-grade Civics-Government Benchmarks 1-5. Please contact us for additional copies, or you are welcome to download the materials from the link below.

Additionally, please consider contacting your city hall to seek city leader participation in the process. Some ideas include asking your mayor to address the class or arranging a tour of city hall. The League encourages mayors, council-members, and city staff to embrace teaching opportunities and share the important functions of local government.

Our organization strives to serve as a resource for not only cities, but any groups looking to promote civic responsibility at the local level. Please let us know if we can be of service to your school. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Nathan Eberline at (785) 354-9565 or at neberline@lkm.org.
