This elective course will offer participants an increased understanding of the duties and responsibilities of municipal clerks in Kansas. City Clerk Fundamentals will help newly appointed and longer-term city clerks gain knowledge and expertise in their areas of specialization and build on the success of the City Clerks Manual produced by the League. Effective Public Meetings: This session will include discussion of the Kansas Open Meetings Act, taking minutes, and the Code of Procedure for Kansas Cities. City Ordinances: This session will cover regular ordinances, charter ordinances, and voting rules. Personnel Management: Presenters will cover personnel policies and guidelines, documentation, records and reporting, laws, and regulations. Public Records Management: This session will cover duties of Freedom of Information Officers and the key components of the Kansas Open Records Act.

The newly updated City Clerks Manual produced by the League will be the main teaching tool for this course. Manuals will be sent to all clerks in early 2017, and we encourage you to bring your manual to this course as a reference tool.

Cost to attend this course is $75 for members, $100 for nonmembers. You will be invoiced for this event.
