1) Governor Announces Budget Cuts

This morning, Governor Mark Parkinson announced plans to make budget cuts necessary to balance the State’s FY 2010 budget. An initial review of the Governor’s report regarding the FY 2010 budget shows that, at this time, there are no plans to further cut city funds. In particular, there is no mention of cutting City-County Highway Funds or alcoholic liquor taxes. Most state agencies are being cut by 2%. The Governor did warn during his press conference that additional cuts will likely be necessary as revenues continue to fall below estimates.

DOE has allocated a total of $27 million for these awards. The funding opportunity is open to all domestic institutions and entities. Funding will be provided to expand training and professional development to instructors who are creating or improving existing training courses for their local PV or SHC installation workforce. 5) City Showcase at 2009 Congress of Cities in San Antonio, Texas

City Showcase is the NLC’s forum for municipal officials attending the Congress of Cities to network with each other while learning about effective and innovative programs around the country.  We need your help in identifying and encouraging programs in your state that belong in this kind of national showcase.

The City Showcase is also a chance for cities to “show off” a little.  Participating cities and their programs are highlighted in Conference literature, on NLC’s website, in the City Practice Database, and in Nations Cities Weekly.

For a City Showcase application click here. Please forward it to anyone you think may be interested. Cities may apply with more than one program. The application deadline is July 3, 2009.

More information about the City Showcase is available on the NLC website - http://www.nlc.org/resources_for_cities/awards___recognition/125.aspx.
